I would just like to announce that yesterday morning we woke up at 6:15am and dressed up in our wonderful down jackets and sat outside to watch the sunrise over the Alps. May I reiterate: 6:15am! But then we went back to sleep again.
When we woke up a goodly time later, we decided to walk down the mountain to Stechelberg, where we take the cable car from to go to Gimmelwald. It was about an hour and a half of pure downhill, quite steep in places with loose rocks. My legs are still complaining. But then, we continued! We carried on another hour to the Trümmelbach falls which were impressive waterfalls right in the heart of the rock. We took a tunnel-lift to get there, and the sheer power of the water thundering through the somewhat claustrophobic chasms was a rather scary sight indeed.
I have been singing the Sound of Music soundtrack nonstop, even though that was set in Austria.
Well, it`s off to Lausanne via the Golden Pass railway today! (possibly with last night`s pasta leftovers in tow… somehow…)
PS. Toilet joke warning: we saw a sign that said Ausfahrt the other day! M`s new true name!
What exactly does “fahrt” means in German or Swiss? And what does extrafahrt or ausfahrt mean besides referring to M’s?
